almost smells like Belgian noel red ale with spices excellent expression/intensity S: arguably equal intensity of cinnamon and nutmeg on the nose mildly toasty muffin-crust-like malt supporting, perhaps a hint of dried red berry/cherry in the back. keeps a thick, messy collar laces a little huge foam build on pour aged white color fantastic retention and rocky structure. (12 oz bottle, PKG 09/30/19 purchased single off shelf. I will note that the ABV (6%) is a tad low for what I prefer for for a Winter Warmer, but that's OK. It drinks far easier than other Winter Warmers/Holiday beers that I have had. This is obviously a beer that has had some spices added instead of the other way 'round. The spices are noticeable, but not overpowering, and they do blend with malts nicely. Overall: Winter warmers and spiced ales/beers aren't really my thing, but this one isn't too bad. All in all, decently balanced.įeel: Smooth with body to the lighter side of medium. Things finish with the spices (primarily nutmeg with cinnamon added in). As the cinnamon declines, the nutmeg comes forward and continues through. The cinnamon is up front and strong, but quickly gives way to the malts and candy. Taste: Very similar to how the beer smells. With a good undercurrent of malt, including darker malts (ie, dark bread). The head reduces to about 1/4" with very good lacing on the glass. Look: Deep and dark but clear ruby that drifts towards a shad of mahogany with 2" off-white head.
